Young adults face many obstacles on their road towards employment. Modern labour market demands new skills and client-oriented competences, theoretical approach implemented at schools does not deliver required content and often demotivates them from active learning and the real life situations often force them to withdraw from the chosen learning path. This leaves them more vulnerable and unprepared for new challenges, pushing them further away from potential occupation.
NRW Region in Germany tackles this issue by implementing since 2006 pilot initiative entitled “Third Way in Vocational Training”, directed to young adults, offering them possibility to re-enter the educational system and attend individually tailored vocational training programme, concentrated on gaining skills and competences within one of fthirteen different vocational occupations.
TWAINE Project’ builds on best practices and experiences of this initiative. Core partners from France, Italy, Malta and Poland will transfer and adapt the methodological approach and didactical materials connected to one of the occupations featured in the NRW pilot initiative – FACHKRAFT IN GASTGEWERBE (Specialist in Hospitality) – into their vocational training structures Their common efforts will be then tested among selected group of beneficiaries and the final results will be published and widely distributed among interested stakeholders. Among with the main training programme an innovative pedagogic support for trainees entitled JOB MAP will be learned by the core partners and used in the pilot test phase.
The main idea of the TWAINE Project concentrates not only on adapting and transferring best practices and results already tested and positively evaluated in German reality, but mostly on bringing a spark to the vocational training – new training offer, individually tailored and adjusted to the specific needs and expectations, allowing them not only to gain new skills and competences but also develop the genuine interest in learning and acquiring knowledge connected to their future employment.
